i graduated from san francisco state and it was creative writing within the english department. i was taking a class much like this. writers on writing and a writer came to speak to a group of young writers the first writer who came was a poet. and i was i fell madly in love with language. i think that's why i'm probably conscious with the writing process because i began with the foundation of language, which is poetry for me. it made me aware of how to use language. not to over use language. you know things like that that aspects of it. i talk a lot about the writing process for a lot of reasons because i think that if you tell what it really means to be a writer people will think oh , it's not -- i think to a large extent you all think we run with the bulls. you know and you think we are sitting in cafes and i can never write in a cafe because i would watch people too much. how can you sit in a cafe and write a novel? we all have our process. i think the interesting things to talk about is the process how you do it because we all do it differently. i don't run with the bulls o

although he was born in tyler texas he spentu in san francisco. he's the father of five kids, three daughters and two sons. one of his daughters was a friend of one of myl he was a.a( #u5 notoriously known to be funny and loving. he was a plumber a contractor, small businessr and he was someonehjr confidence in his workers in his team. he didn't cut corners, and he always went above and beyond the job at hand. when i spoke to his children, i asked them what their fondest memory would be of their father and they remember him as being ac/nn6 great cook, generous and kind and greeting everyone with a smile. i would have to agree with that statement. the last time i saw mr. hater was at sally's restaurant. he was standing in line in front of me taking a long time to pay for his meal. i said mr. hater, hurry=[j-w up. and turnedfdjal around and smiled. he was about a quarter short. instead of fumbling in his pocket i gave him a quarter. that was the last time i saw him and one of my fondest memories i have of him. he was a great man. i'd like to close o

closer to home, we have urban [speaker not understood] here in san francisco and at the national mall. so, we have a sprat strong cadre of rangers that help in incident managements, presidential visits, americas cup here, most recently helping with the city and the coast guard and even katrina and the gulf war spill most recently. closer to home the golden gate bridge connects not only our park lands but our communities. since 9/11 it really has connected our law enforcement public safety officials even more seriously and with greater intent as we protect the bridge from any threat. americas cup, the races here have fostered even greater coordination and partnership with the department of emergency management in the city, city fire department, city police department and the coast guard. and we look forward to working with san francisco and our local governments and the military to make our emergency planning even more effective. so, thank you again for your time and we'll see you out in the park. (applause) >> so, we're going to show another application from motion launch, the founder and ceo, john, will be sharing some of the work that they're doing. they're based here out of san francisco and they've got a great announcement to make. >> i am jon mills. i'm ceo of motion loft. we started about three years ago developing sensors that we could place around cities that would give us some analytics on how people move around cities and how vehicles drive around cities. so, currently we have 16 neighborhoods -- 18 neighborhoods covered in san francisco, and we get real-time data back that shows exactly how many people go by some of the busiest areas in san francisco. so, you can see here san francisco, on average total, i think we had 150 people cross our sensors on average for every sensor
